We've arrived!

About 26 hours after we left Saskatoon, we arrived in New Delhi.  Our tour company met us at the airport and we were off to the hotel.  MJ and the boys especially liked their introduction to Indian driving!!

After a short sleep we set off on our first day in Delhi.  Our guide met us in the morning and we were off to see Akshardham Temple.  Akshardam is only 6 years old and its design is inspired by the temples of India.  It is an amazing site.  Unfortunately, you cannot  take pictures.

We were also treated to a cycle rickshaw tour of Old Delhi.  Cars won't fit down the streets as  you can see:

We ended our day with some good shopping at the Cottage Emporium!!

Today, we visited a number of World Heritage sites.  We began at Humayun's tomb, which was modelled after the Taj Mahal.

Our next stop was the Qutub Minar, which is about 1000 years old.  The minar is 72 meters tall - the scale of the architecture is amazing considering that they had none of the modern tools of engineering.

We ended our day with some serious shopping.  Our guide took us to a shop where we bought a Kashmiri wall hanging, a scarf for MJ and custom suits for Ian and Spencer.   We chose the fabric and were measured.  This  was done at 4:30 and the tailors arrived at our hotel with mock ups at 8:30 for final fitting.  We'll pick up the finished suits when we return to Delhi.  Wow!

We've been amazed by the boy's bravery regarding food.  Spencer is trying everything and jumped at a breakfast of poori bhaji the first day!  Today, we were all loving sambar, upma and idli for breakfast!!

We're off to Neemrana tomorrow where we will be staying in a 15th century fort!
